Anthony Richardson left Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers twice during the same drive, and he won't be returning.
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback, who was sidelined early in three of his four games last season due to injuries, suffered another setback. During a run, Richardson took a hit, grabbing at his hip as he went down, and was briefly replaced by Joe Flacco. Richardson returned later in the drive, attempting another run to his left, but his leg appeared to give out, leading to an awkward slide.
NFL reporter Charles Robinson shared footage of the two runs where Richardson took significant hits to his hip and head, stating, "He can’t operate like this running the ball. He won’t last."
After limping off, Richardson was escorted to the locker room by the Colts’ athletic training staff and was officially ruled out for the remainder of the game due to a hip injury.
Flacco re-entered the game and immediately threw a touchdown pass to Josh Downs. The injury marked a setback for the Colts, who spent the entire offseason focused on keeping Richardson healthy. Although Richardson had managed to stay on the field through the first three games, Sunday’s injury brought back concerns about his durability, echoing memories of his injury-riddled rookie season.
